Right after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2 was released in theaters I told myself that I would do a set of cards featuring Harry along his story. I picked some key notes in his life and wanted to illustrate it in a card set. After watching the last film (which you can read a rushed review on my blog) I decided to draw up the set. I have been asked a couple of times what I'm doing with these pieces, and I have now decided to sell them.
If you wish to purchase the piece you can find the set at my store - http://crisishour.bigcartel.com/product/harry-potter-7-pc-card-set
Sorcerer's Stone was just an introductory piece. Harry with new clothes, wand, broom, and can't forget fluffy, I thought this pretty much summed up an good start to the set.
For Chamber of Secrets I wanted to use Riddle's Diary, and a shot of some of the messages on the wall that Ginny had scribed. Only to be accentuated by the basilisk shadow that isn't REALLY there.
Prisoner of Azkaban was all about the Marauder's Map and the existence of 'Wormtail'. How the story unfolds to Harry was such a turning point in the series.
Goblet of Fire. I chose this shot as I wanted to inject a little humor into the set. So much grim and dark images to pull from all the stories. After the nice intro image I felt we needed a nice change of pace so he wasn't singled out in the group.
The Prophecy in the Order of the Phoenix is the main character here. Harry learns what he must do. Kill of be killed.
For the Half Blood Prince I chose Harry learning the Sectum Sempra spell from Snape's Advanced Potion Making text only for the sheer want to draw Harry learning magic.
And last but not least! Ever since reading Deathly Hallows, I've had the image of Harry touching lips to the snitch and whispering "I am about to die." I feel this is one of the greatest images in my head from the series, and I'm glad I got it out.
Hope you enjoy my insight on what I was thinking while drawing these pieces.

Detroit FanFare is only a week away!
Hey guys and gals! It's that time of year again. The 2nd annual Detroit FanFare is upon us. This is probably my favorite show to do as it's a home town show, and I usually have something to unveil at the show. Last year it was "Fearsome as the Night." and this year it was supposed to be "Seeds of Mourning" but the schedules keep changing, computers malfunction, and money isn't where it needs to be to fund it. So for right now Seeds is on hold. What will be there is Lisa and I, with original art, sketches, and prints. We are at table #708. If you are around come check us out, and say hey.
Also I wanted to dump a new HP image in here to keep at it!

Rubeus Hagrid is the frumps.

Hey guys, back with my weekly Potter piece. This time it's Hagrid. I went through a lot of Hagrids before reaching this final design. Some heads were too tall, some too round. The hair just had to be right. This is my Rubeus Hagrid. Next piece will be a little more dynamic in the way it doesn't look just like a character sheet. :) Maybe I'll add my Potter to it in the sidecar.
This piece was inked with a PrismaColor Fine line pen, colored and textured in Adobe Photoshop. The watercolor textures used in this image can be found at Lost and Taken.

Ranting over a little thing called Harry Potter.

I recently saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2 with my lovely wife Lisa and our good friend Annie. My thoughts on the closing of the film.
I have beef.
**Spoilers below for those that have not read the book, nor seen the films.**
Not that it is a horrible movie. Just certain things that weren't in the movie that were so epic and great in the book. This movie needed more battle.
Not nearly enough time was spent on the dueling wizards, certain character deaths, and portrayal of the entire battle between Harry and Voldemort had been moved and altered to better fit a film, in which I disagree. It was lackluster. Remember in the book when Harry talks down Voldemort when explaining how Voldie is not the true master of the Elder wand? How he calls him Tom, and Riddle? Or how about when Harry explains that because he gave his life willingly to the Dark Lord, that he also just gave the entire castle of friends and family resisting the Death Eaters the same protection that his Mother gave him as a child, and they could not be harmed by He who must not be named? That awesome feeling of accomplishment you get from the book when Harry defeats Voldemort in the Great Hall surrounded by all his pals. Well that's not there. Harry is all alone when he defeats Voldie... and outside in a depressingly grey blue atmosphere. Voldemort dematerializes and no proof other than Harry's word that he's dead. What a let down...
Looks like I could rant and rave just on the end alone. But I will choose not to and I'll get back to work.
Opening this up for conversation, we all know what I think, but what did YOU think of the end to the films.
