25 Days of DC - Mr. Freeze

I know that I said I'd go hero/villain/hero/villain and so forth, but I just had to end off this project on a Christmas-y note. I thought the best way to end it off would be with a Mr. Freeze and wearing some Santa garb. Something about seeing the hat through the dome was funny to me so I wanted to include that.

25 Days of DC - the Joker

Coming in at #24 of 25 we have the Joker. I was intending the Joker to be the last of the series because he is absolutely my favorite to draw from the DCU. Halfway through this project it hit me. The better idea. I'll be posting that tomorrow. Come by... or buy *laugh* and see the conclusion of the project and I hope you all are having a GREAT Christmas! Or if you don't do Christmas I hope you are enjoying that too *grin*.

25 Days of DC - Hawkgirl

This one was sketched out then painted with watercolor. I felt like the blacks weren't black enough so I went over some areas after it dried.

25 Days of DC - Deadman

Here is #22 of 25. Have to say that this one was a blast to do. Don't know too much about this characters history, but his design is pretty fun. Anyone want to fill me in more about his character and where I should read, I mean to say any good trades or anything from this character?

25 Days of DC - the Penguin

Wanted to just go for a more watercolor look on this piece. I'm really feeling like this experiment made me embrace the medium! Gotta get more illustration work with watercolors!

With the Penguin I wanted to do his squinty eyed monocle faced, cigarette holder self. In my head this character will always look like this. Danny Devito (While fun in it's own disquise) was not really the penguin for me. Sorry Timmy!

25 Days of DC - Alfred Pennyworth

As soon as I decided that I wanted to do 25 DC characters for this month, I told myself that I NEEDED to draw Alfred Pennyworth. I don't see to many people draw Alfred and give him the fan art treatment. I may have to do more later on with him, but he is (like yesterdays post.) a breath of fresh air in a world full of meta-humans and aliens.

25 Days of DC - Detective Chimp

So I wasn't going to do this, but I opted out of one of my picks for a character for one someone requested. This is Detective Chimp. Now I had a super hero in mind and this just screamed fun. It is nice to take a break from the hero/villain types for a bit and do something little more off the beaten path.

As always 9x12 bristol board in water color and pencil.

25 Days of DC - Harley Quinn

Here she is. I couldn't resist the Brooklyn accented companion only to the Joker. I had to do something fun and sassy with her, so I decided to give her a large lollipop. Something only Harley would own. Coming in at #18 in no particular order, if I was going to rate her in the world of DC characters that I like to draw she'd be at the top!

25 Days of DC - Green Lantern (Alan Scott)

Thought I'd do an old school lantern. I had Green Lantern requested many times. Some just said Green Lantern, some said Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, and Alan Scott. I chose Scott as I've never drawn him before.

25 Days of DC - Captain Cold

Coming in at #16 of 25 we have Captain Cold. I chose to do his new outfit rather than get him in his parka. I always thought he was lame as characters come, but I've recently been informed by some of my fans throughout the years that he's actually kind of a serious threat. Half Mole Man, and half Mr. Freeze. That was my inspiration behind this particular drawing.

25 Days of DC - Wesley Dodds (Sandman)

This one was a bit fun. Wanted to end this water color set with a bang! I tried to use as few lines as possible in the piece to give room for colors to form the shapes rather than harsh blocks of blacks or lines. I also tried to do a different composition on this piece and I am not sure how I feel about it. I'll be revisiting this idea soon enough.

25 Days of DC - Big Barda

Coming in at #14 is Big Barda! I love this character. I wish I were requested to draw her more often. Something about the jagged edges feels so comfortable in my style. Dirty fighting, super actiony empowered woman, those are my favorite characters. I'll have to rectify my never doing a full pinup, and in digital color for Barda.

25 Days of DC - Batman

I usually kick around Batman with some swooping pose, or cape flapping in the wind. I just kinda wanted to do a detective dressed up in a costume. Big ol' magnifying glass and all. I also wanted to amplify in the BG what he found on the clue he is observing.

25 Days of DC - Poison Ivy

This piece kind of just flooded out of me. I hit my comfort zone with this one. Took to my Cintiq for the layout, then water colored the piece, and inked over that. Got a little carried away with wanting to add a little texture and tone with a colored pencil. I hate that I have to give this away for $25. I want to keep it! A deal is a deal though. :)

25 Days of DC - Mary Marvel

Color scanned odd. See below for true color.
Coming in at #11 is Mary Marvel. Not much known about this character. I assumed she was like a younger milder Supergirl. I decided to go full color on this as I didn't know what I wanted to do, and I wanted to play with color. I'm looking forward to some really outrageous color combinations soon. So keep an eye out for the next 4 in the set!

25 Days of DC - Darkseid

This one I went without a lot of harsh black lines. I also added in a little bit of red for his eyes. It just didn't do it for me to have the eyes be white. I feel the sharp edges on his cheeks and brow should be really pointed. Don't know too much about him, and was afraid of making him too much like Galactus + Apocalypse from Marvel. So I just decided to rock out the bust shot.

25 Days of DC - Blue Beetle

#9 in the series. How am I doing so far guys? This is the Ted Kord version of the character. I fought about which Beetle to do, and this just seemed right. Nice balance of blues, the other seemed like a lot of blue. Same ol' info - 9x12 watercolor on bristol.

25 Days of DC - Golden Age Catwoman

More watercolors coming in! I love this medium. So relaxing to play around with shapes within shapes. This is getting me excited for the next round of 5 so I can start incorporating a little more technique.

Here is Catwoman. Requested as Golden Age. The cape, and the cats... I didn't do the whip though. I thought the composition was strong and it didn't need the whip. Maybe next one of her I draw I'll include it.

New site header, possible art book?

Hey guys just thought I'd make another post after the Wonder Woman that sold just as soon as I could post it. You guys are awesome! I've been tinkering around with the idea of making an art book of the illustrations I've done this past month, the only difference is that I'd offer a look at both the B&W and digitally colored pieces with extras. Here is a look at what the cover could look like.

So the 25 days of DC drawing in full color form, and maybe some cool process extras. Tips and tricks about how I go about setting up the files for color, and other geeky thoughts on why I chose to draw 'x' character and my personal discovery of the character.

These will be coming out after this month obviously, and the price will be somewhere near $20 for a paperback.
